Giving to World Health & Hunger

  • In Asian, African, and Latin American countries there are well over 500,000,00 people living in absolute poverty.
  • Every year, 15,000,000 children die of hunger
  • For the price of one missile, a school full of hungry children could eat lunch every day for 5 years.
  • More than 100,000,000 children will die from illness and starvation in this decade.
  • Globally, there are 32,900,000 people with HIV/AIDS, 13,700,000 people with tuberculosis, and 247,000,000 people with malaria.
  • 450,000,000 people suffer from mental or behavioral disorder
  • 1,800,000 people die from diarrheal diseases.  Improved water supply reduced morbidity by 21% and improved sanitation, 37.5%.
  • 250 lbs of anthrax spores spread over Washington D.C. could cause up to 3,000,000 deaths - more than from a 1 megaton hydrogen bomb.
  • Globally, there are only 13 physicians per 10,000 people.

Giving to the Fine Arts

  • There is a nationwide trend of downsizing and even, eliminating, fine arts programs in grade schools, high schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Fine arts programs, including radio programs, symphonies, and theater are increasingly being cut due to lack of funds.   Imagine a world, without the arts.
  • 82.6% of 8th graders earned mostly As and Bs who were involved heavily in the fine arts.  67.2% earning As and Bs were not.
  • 30.07% of respondents who participate in the fine arts perform community service whereas only 6.28% who did not participate in the fine arts performed community services.
  • Fine arts programs help teach students far more than how to draw roses, play the violin, or act on a stage.  They stimulate the creative part of the mind, teach discipline, instill a sense of pride, accomplishment, and self-worth.  These attributes help students do better academically, do better in their adult life, with their career, family, and emotional well being.
